Meningitis is inflammation of the meninges of the brain. It can be protected by vaccines.

TYPES OF MENINGITIS:

1. BACTERIAL (Severe): - Meningococcus - Pneumococcus - Hib

2. VIRAL (Milder): - Enteroviruses - Herpes viruses

VACCINES:

Hib Vaccine (Combined Five): - 2nd, 3rd, 4th months - 18th month booster

Pneumococcal Vaccine: - 2nd, 4th months - 12th month booster

Meningococcal Vaccine (Menactra): - 12th month and above - Single dose - 5 years protection

SYMPTOMS: - Severe headache - Neck stiffness - High fever - Light sensitivity - Tendency to sleep - Vomiting
