Gastroesophageal reflux is a condition in which stomach contents leak back into the esophagus. It is common in babies.

SYMPTOMS: - Frequent vomiting or gushing - Restlessness after eating - Crying and colic - Feeding rejection - Cough and wheezing - Growth retardation

PHYSIOLOGICAL REFLUX: - It is normal in babies - It passes in 12-18 months - Mild vomiting after feeding - The baby looks good

PATHOLOGICAL REFLUX (Disease): - Severe vomiting - Pain and discomfort - Feeding rejection - Growth retardation - Breathing problems

TREATMENT: Position 1: Keep upright after feeding 2. Frequency: Feed less often 3. Thickening: Formula additive (doctor recommendation) 4. Medication: Acid suppressants 5. Surgery: Rarely needed

WHEN TO SEE A DOCTOR? - Green/yellow vomit - Vomiting blood - Severe crying - Growth retardation
