When babies are placed on their backs, the back of their heads may flatten. Different positions should be tried.
FLAT HEAD SYNDROME (Plagiocephaly): - Flattening of one side of the head - Aesthetic problem - Does not affect brain development
REASONS: - Sleeping position on your back - Baby seat overuse - Lying on one side - Muscle weakness (torticollis)
PREVENTION: ✅ Tummy play time (30-60 minutes a day) ✅ Changing position ✅ Looking in different directions ✅ Limited use of the baby seat ✅ Changing carrying positions
TREATMENT: 1. CONSERVATIVE: - Changing position - Physical therapy (if there is muscle weakness) - It recovers within 4-6 months
2. HAT (Helmet): - In severe cases - Between 4-12 months - Worn 23 hours a day - Used for 3-6 months
WHEN TO SEE A DOCTOR? - If it does not improve after 2-3 months - Severe asymmetry - If there is muscle weakness
NOTE: Sleeping on your back is still the safest position.
